An American client wanted to produce a travel safety course which had video segments based in a newsroom. The decision to use green screen and CGI to create the newsroom was a quick one. The look of CGI would give the American newsroom feel that we needed at low expense. I relit and added new materials to a newsroom model to give it he right look and also made sure to have the virtual camera at the right height which would match filming.
A bit of post production in After Effects was required to key the footage and then colour grade so it matched with the CGI lighting better. A small added touch was to flip the footage and mask it onto the virtual desk with layer blending and blurring to provide a believable reflection. Only with slow motion or pausing would anyone notice the wrong side of the hands are showing...
It was an enjoyable project with some good technical aspects to work out. I like trying to replicate big budget effects on a shoe string.
